As part of the twinning program between Australia WA and Pakistan, Alzheimer Australia WA staff members Marlene Gorgan and Lorraine Benson visited Alzheimer’s Pakistan in April 2012 to impart ongoing training to the staff of Lahore Dementia Club (day care center) staff and the families about appropriate exercise equipment for people with dementia and introduce an intergenerational playgroup concept. This concept is now run on weekly basis at the day care center in Lahore.

During this visit, Marlene Gorgan and Lorraine Benson also conducted a training workshop for family caregivers on how to provide better care at home to people with Alzheimer’s Disease and related Dementias.

They also provided specialist advice on designing enabling care environment that considers cultural specific issues, for example separate care facilities for men and women.  They are also providing continued training and supervision to the day care center staff online using Skype.
