Dementia Friends Pakistan

Alzheimer’s Pakistan has launched the Dementia Friends Movement in Pakistan, which is the biggest ever global initiative to change people’s perceptions of dementia. The Movement has been developed and led by the Alzheimer’s Society UK and aims to transform the way the citizens thinks, acts and talks about the condition. Alzheimer’s Pakistan has also joined the large number of nations working towards developing Dementia Friendly Communities in their respective countries. The Dementia Friends Movement focuses on improving inclusion and quality of life for people with dementia in a number of ways. One of these ways is through the Dementia Friendly Communities recognition process, which encourages communities to sign up and work towards becoming dementia-friendly.

What is a Dementia Friend?

A Dementia Friend learns a little bit more about what it’s like to live with dementia and then turns that understanding into action – anyone of any age can be a Dementia Friend. All you need to do is to attend a face-to-face Dementia Friends Information Session. Dementia Friends is about learning more about dementia and the small ways you can help. From telling friends about Dementia Friends to visiting someone you know living with dementia, every action counts.

Information Sessions

Dementia Friends Information Sessions are run by volunteer Dementia Friends Champions, who are trained and supported by Alzheimer’s Pakistan. Each Information Session lasts around one hour. You will learn more about dementia and how you can help to create dementia friendly communities. If you wish to book a Dementia Friends Information Session, then please contact us on info@alz.org.pk or 0304-4409677 – 042-35233935.

Turning understanding into action

After the Dementia Friends Information Session we would like you to tell us about how you are going to turn your understanding of dementia into a practical action. You don’t have to commit to doing something time-consuming. Every action counts. Dementia Friends actions could include:

  •  Volunteer for Alzheimer’s Pakistan.
  • Get in touch and stay in touch with someone I know living with dementia.
  • Wear my badge and tell five people about the dementia friend initiative.
  • Become a dementia friends champion to organize information session.
  • Help in creating awareness distributing awareness leaflets.
  • Fundraising through donation receipt books.
  • Fundraising through personal sources
  • Carry out a personal action.

All those becoming Dementia Friends shall be given OFFICIAL CERTIFICATES and shall also receive their Dementia Friends badges.

What is a Dementia Friends Champion?

A Dementia Friends Champion is a volunteer who encourages others to make a positive difference to people living with dementia in their community. They do this by giving them information about the personal impact of dementia, and what they can do to help. It’s easy to get involved. Dementia Friends Champions will attend an INDUCTION SESSION and receive support to conduct a Dementia Friends session and become part of the global Dementia Friends Champions Community.
